challenge

Stroud Construction had no website and no established visual identity beyond a logo. The company had built its business as a commercial subcontractor, relying on the owner's industry ties rather than a public-facing brand, which is part of why a website had never been necessary before. As Stroud shifted toward custom homes and larger builds and remodels, that changed: before any pages could be designed, a color palette had to be built from scratch to give the brand something visually consistent to stand on.

process

With a color palette established, the site was designed and built as Stroud's first real digital presence, paired with SEO research (keyword planning, trend analysis, competitive research via SEMrush) to target the right search terms from day one.

Since Stroud was positioning itself for custom homes and larger remodels rather than typical commercial or general contractor work, the design intentionally avoided anything that read as traditionally construction or corporate. Layout and animation stayed minimal and tasteful instead, closer to how a custom home builder or high-end remodeler would present itself. That tone was the core design decision: signal custom-build credibility through restraint and polish, not through the industry's usual visual conventions.

solution

Stroud was still building out its portfolio at the time, with only previous commercial projects available to showcase, and many of those weren't documented with a website in mind, so available imagery was limited. The site made use of what existed, presenting the commercial work as proof of craftsmanship while the custom-home portfolio was still being built.

outcome

Within 4.5 months of launch, Stroud's SEO work moved the site onto the second page of Google, just behind established, high-profile local home builders, strong positioning for a brand new site competing against companies with years of search history.

Note: Stroud has since pivoted to a new industry due to macroeconomic conditions, and a rebrand/new site is pending on their end, which is why a live link isn't available here.
